Tired of battling against dry skin this winter? At Strip HQ, we understand that time is limited and let’s face it, when it’s almost artic conditions outside sometimes we just get that tad lazier with our skin routine. We’ve pulled together some top tips to help you win that battle against dry skin this winter!
- Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
Rule number 1, and the most important is moisturize! You may have found a moisturizer that works just fine in spring and summer. But as weather conditions change, so, too, should your skin care routine. Find an “ointment” moisturizer that’s oil-based, rather than water-based, as the oil will create a protective layer on the skin that retains more moisture than a cream or lotion. Why not try our Apple and Cranberry Hand and Body Lotion to minimise those cracked wintery hands!
- Avoid hot showers
We know it’s tempting, but showering in scalding temperatures tends to dry out your skin even more. Hot water removes natural oils from the skin, and the more oils removed, the drier the skin becomes.
- Switch cleansers
Cleansers can be extremely drying to the skin. If you’re used to using options that contain glycolic or salicylic acid, rotate with a more hydrating version that contains moisturizing ingredients. Our Lycon Tea-Tree Total Wash for hands and body is both non-drying and pH balanced. It leaves skin feeling clean and refreshed and protected. With anti-bacterial tea-tree oil, this wash also hygienically removes germs while soothing the skin.
- Brush your lips with a toothbrush to get rid of that excess skin.
Because NO ONE likes chapped lips… Mix some olive oil, organic honey and sugar to create your own lip sugar scrub. Once mixed, place half a teaspoon onto your lips and gently rub for 60 seconds, using your tooth brush as an exfoliating brush. If this doesn’t take your fancy then why not try our South Seas Sunscreen Stick, which is great for chapped and dry lips and fits right into your handbag!
- Wearing sunscreen
Pull back out the sunscreen ladies, because this winter it is your best friend. Most people think of sun screen as “summer only”. But it can protect your skin from damage all year around. Snow reflects the sun’s rays, so it’s possible to get sunburn even when it’s freezing outside. Also, skin-damaging UV radiation can be even more intense at high altitudes, so be sure to protect skin properly during your winter getaway to the slopes. Great for dehydrated skin or dry skin on face! Why not try our Heliocare SPF 50 Spray? Containing green tea extract, giving it an anti-oxidant boost. Bonus!
- Exfoliate it off
To help get rid of that flaky, dry skin after a hard long day of Christmas shopping and sipping mulled wine, Strip recommends you try the Lycon Apple & Cranberry Body Scrub (perfect to use before your Lycon Apple and Cranberry Body Lotion). The sugar scrubs gently exfoliates the skin and moisturises at the same time, helping invigorate, brighten and energise pale, tired and dry looking winter skin.
