The Strip therapists give the breakdown on what to expect at your first wax
Getting your bikini line waxed for the first time can be somewhat intimidating but our therapists are true professionals; they specialize in intimate hair removal and know all the tips and tricks to make you feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible. Strip was the first company to coin the term ‘virtually pain-free’ waxing and over the last 11 years we have discovered the best products and developed new techniques to make the whole process quicker, easier and more hygienic* than ever before.
*That means gloves, wax strips, sanitizer and absolutely no ‘double dipping’ (no we’re not talking about snacks, this just means that we use a new spatula each time we take wax from the pot)
I’m new to waxing…How do I know what to book?
At Strip we offer 4 different types of bikini line wax and if you’re not sure what to go for our therapists can assess the hair thickness and growth direction to help you decide. Again, please don’t be embarrassed – we do this day in, day out… we know what looks good!
- A basic bikini wax removes hair from the sides and top of the knicker line only and takes about 20 minutes
- A G-String wax removes hair from the same areas but follows the line of a g-string knicker, offering a higher cut option. It also takes around 20 minutes.
- The Brazilian bikini wax takes off everything from the intimate areas (front and back), as well as the sides and top of the bikini area, leaving a strip of hair at the front. It is our most popular treatment and takes 20-30 minutes
- Finally you can go for the Hollywood which takes everything off and again takes 20-30 minutes
Prep your body with these pre-wax tips
To get the best results and to achieve silky soft skin, you need to prepare it pre-wax. You need to have some hair or stubble (anything longer than about 2mm should do it) so that the wax has something to cling on to. Don’t worry about your hair being too long – we can always trim it during the appointment so that everything will be in proportion by the time we’ve finished.
For the ladies – skin sensitivity is heightened just before and during your period so you might want to avoid this time.
We pride ourselves on being able to perform virtually pain-free waxes, however it really does depend on your pain threshold. We use premium quality Lycon wax, plus ‘pre’ and ‘post’ skincare products. Our therapists are trained to stretch the skin and position your body in an effort to minimize the pain. If you are particularly sensitive you could take some pain relief before your appointment but when done properly, it really isn’t that bad!
What goes on during your wax
Your waxing specialist will introduce herself and ask you to come into the treatment room. Our main priority at this point is making sure you feel comfortable so do let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
We have disposable underwear available for basic bikini or g-string waxes but if you’re having a Hollywood or Brazilian we would normally ask you to take off everything from the waist down, however if you’re happier wearing disposable underwear, please just say. Don’t fear – we’re here to make sure you feel comfortable in these slightly awkward situations!
We’ll ask you to use the wet wipes provided to freshen up and then jump up on the bed and lie on your back (your therapist will leave the room for you to prepare yourself).
The therapist will knock to ensure you are ready and come back into the room to begin the treatment. After putting on gloves your therapist is ready to begin and will start by reviewing the area and putting some pre waxing oil on to reduce any pulling to the skin.
The entire way through your treatment your therapist will communicate clearly and ask you to stretch your skin and move your body in ways to reduce pain and get the best result possible. We may also tweeze the odd stray hair (with sterile tweezers).
Note for Brazilians and Hollywoods: Most people get their inner buttocks waxed – If you don’t want this hair removed please just inform your therapist. It doesn’t hurt any more than waxing any other part of your body.
On finishing the treatment your therapist will re- assess the area to ensure we have achieved the best result possible and hand you a mirror to check for yourself. She will then wait outside the room allowing you to dress in private.
Take care before you bare
We recommend wearing loose clothing and cotton undies so that the freshly waxed area isn’t irritated, and for 24 hours after your wax we advise clients to avoid anything that makes you too sweaty. Avoid very hot baths or showers as these can anger sensitized skin – ouch!
Skin reactions after a bikini wax depend on your skin type and can really vary. Our therapists can discuss preventative methods when you come in for your appointment
Your wax will generally last 4-6 weeks and we sell a full range of products to protect against dryness and ingrown hairs.
Shaving is the enemy – If you want to remain hair-free for as long as possible, you really should grow the hair for three to four weeks before getting waxed. That means NO shaving in between – if you don’t let it grow long enough then not only will it potentially hurt more when you’re being waxed, but you won’t get a smooth finish, and the hair will start to grow back before you know it.
All of our therapists are trained the same high level so you can either re-book with your favourite or meet another one of the Strip team.
We really wouldn’t recommend waxing yourself at home unless you’ve done it many times before, as you can end up with bruised or torn skin. By the time you pay out for the home waxing kits (and get wax all over the bedroom), it’s really not worth it. Leave it to our ‘waxperts’. Find your nearest salon now!
